President’s Report February 2018

Presidents Report By George Perot

HAPPY NEW YEAR…Welcome to 2018. I hope everyone had a Great Holiday Season and a safe New Years Eve. We had a rocky 2017 not knowing which way the Golf Course was going. There were a lot of changes going on, the Pro Shop moved to the dining area, no one knew if the kitchen was going to be open or who was going to be behind the bar. We thought everything was getting better, but we found out that Jackie left for a better job. (She was part of the Management Team). Alex and Eli are doing a good job holding everything together.

Congratulation to Jim Landstedt for winning the Masters Cup by edging out Tom Neer and Bill Borden.

Our Thursday and Saturday Team Play is at the half way point. Saturday Team started out hot by winning 37 to 11. The next two matches they hit a bump and they are 1 and 2 in the standings. I’m sure they will come back in the next three matches and right the ship.

Thursday Team play swept Salt Creek but lost the first match with Mission Trails, so they are 2 – 1.

Don’t forget our February 11th Master is on a Sunday this month.

See you there

George Perot

Vice President’s Report January 2018

Vice President Report By Mike Keeney

Team play is underway.  Both Thursday and Saturday teams are competing again this year for our Cottonwood Men’s Club.  DID YOU KNOW? In ALL of San Diego County there are only six men’s clubs who compete on both Thursday and Saturday.  Three are private:  La Costa, Morgan Run & The Country Club of Rancho Bernardo.  One is playing at Sycuan (enough said).  One, Mission Trails has declined to provide free practice rounds this year.  That leaves US!  Kelly Moore and Sean Hayes are our captains and are doing a fantastic job.  Let’s all help get both teams to the playoffs and continue to support our club!!

TOURNAMENT UPDATES.

Hello there Cottonwood Men’s Club members. Just want to inform you about the new tournament format that Rob and I are implementing for this upcoming year. It is called GOLF GENIUS and it allows us to send emails to all of our members,in addition to letting you guys sign up for the tournament by pushing the PLAY button on the email that we send out. It even allows for you to let us know that you will not be playing on that particular Masters event. There also is a place to send a message to us if you want to play in a particular foursome or for whatever questions you may have. We used this format for the past 2 tournaments and it seems to run pretty smoothly. It even allows us to put the TEE BOX that you will be playing from. For all of you out there that were not aware of this, let me explain. We have decided to allow any of our members that have a combination of handicap and age over 90 to play from the FORWARD tees. Of course the handicaps will be computed on whichever tee that you decide to play from.  So guys, when you get the email from DENNIS CONWAY or GOLF GENIUS,please respond one way or another. Currently I send this out a couple of times a month to those that haven’t responded because of the new system.  If you have any questions or feedback for Rob or I,please feel free to let us know.  See you all at the next Masters on February 11th.

Secretary’s Report November 2017

Secretary Report By Bo Cunningham

2017 Cottonwood Men’s Club Turkey Shoot and Election Night. 41 golfers showed up for the Annual Turkey Shoot. A shotgun start at 2pm went off on time. Everybody was playing for a Turkey. There were 37 Turkey’s and 4 Cornish Game Hens. As is with tradition, the 4 highest scores took  home the Game Hens. Those players were Barry Williamson, Charlie Smith, Mike Vogt and George Perot. The other 37 players all took home 18lb Turkeys. Ron Cady shot a net 31 and I believe that was the lowest score. Well done Kado. Everyone was treated to a Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner complete with pumpkin and apple pie. A big Thank You to Lupe, Amanda and Karen for the excellent food, drink and service. You three are the backbone for Cottonwood’s food and beverage department. Election Night was held and the results were announced. Retiring from the Board of Governors are John Damron and Johnny Cruse. Thank You John for your calm and cool leadership as a board member. You always think things thru and come up with great insight. Thank You Johnny Cruse for your willingness to run the point with Western Golf and the transition from the Gamboa Gang to the new ownership. We know the countless hours you spent behind the scenes and it was very much appreciated.  The board will miss both of you. Thanks again for your service. Introducing the 2018 Cottonwood Board of Governors. George Perot was re-elected as President, Rob Blamers was re-elected as Tournament Director, Barry Williamson was re-elected as Treasurer, Dale Hilmen was elected as a new board member. Congrats Mr. Hilmen. Mid term board members are Mike Keeney, Dennis Conway and Bo Cunningham. President Gorge Perot gave his state of the union addresss and opened the floor to club members for ideas. Continue reading “Secretary’s Report November 2017” »
